GripGo Hands Free Phone Mount Review

You’re driving down a road in your neighborhood.  Suddenly, your phone rings and you realize you’re not sure where you put it.  Using one hand to steer and one to navigate your purse and the area on the passenger seat, you frantically grab for it.  You look over to see where the darned thing is and when you look back at the road, you panic and swerve out of the way of the oncoming car.  Whew!

Close call, but you’re safe.  You figured you’d be fine since you were only doing 25, but it takes just a mere second before you can be in a life threatening situation.  Crisis averted, you pull over and calmly look around for the phone, not sure whose call you missed.

Sound familiar?  It did to me!  That’s why I was so excited when I saw the latest infomercial.  I don’t usually get into the As Seen on TV products, but when I saw this one, I knew would get one.  And maybe even one for each family member (hey, Christmas is coming, right?).  So what is it?

Drumroll, please….  It’s the GripGo!

I have to say, I don’t like being suckered by TV commercials.  That said, you’d have to try pretty hard not to be suckered by this.  It just makes sense!

What is GripGo?

It is, simply, an arm that connects from your windshield or dashboard with a pad on the end to hold your phone.  Just place your phone on it and voila!  It stays put.  The commercial even claims that it can hold a tablet, a convenient feature for the person in the passenger seat.

How it Works

I was skeptical at first.  How exactly does this thing keep your phone stuck to it so well?  I figured either 1) it doesn’t really stick that well, or 2) it does stick well but uses some kind of super gel stuff that leaves everything sticky.  Fortunately, I was wrong!

The secret is apparently the material that the phone is placed on.  It’s made of tiny suction cups (didn’t you see the green stuff on the infomercial?).  It makes me feel like the Green Goblin in Spiderman.  Well, maybe without the evil part.  But it is very green, and very high-tech.

Another thing I like about it is that the pad where you place your phone can spin 360⁰.  This is great if you need to move from a vertical screen to a wide screen mode, such as when you’re using GPS.  Which brings me to my next point…

For GPS

It’s great for GPS!  I was recently in a large, unfamiliar city and found myself referring to my phone’s GPS a good bit.  I don’t have a Garmin Nuvi or anything like that, since I travel somewhat infrequently.  However, I started to envy my friend’s Garmin that sits so perfectly on its little arm.  He didn’t get lost at all.  I, on the other hand, had to keep picking up my phone and checking it, which turned out not-so-well for me.

No longer!  This should work every bit as well as his.

For music

How about if you use your phone for music?  My phone is Bluetooth connected to my car’s stereo system, which is great.  However, navigating my Amazon mp3 player can be a struggle when I, once again, have to keep picking up the phone.  Now I can change songs as often as I want!

Sounds great.  What’s the price tag?

A good question.  I figured it would probably be one of those overpriced things that I spend $40 on, only to have it break in a month.  Actually, it’s not as bad as I thought.

The GripGo costs $14.95, plus shipping and handling.  Actually, the website says you get one more mount for free, just the cost of the shipping and handling.  So get one, then give the other ones to friends and relatives for Christmas!  That’s my plan.  They don’t need to know their gift was free, do they?

To clarify

I did notice in looking at the website that they throw in “two free dashboard mounts”.  At first I was confused.  I thought you got one, plus one free.  Just to clarify: the “dashboard mount” is the part that sticks to your dashboard or windshield, the “hands free mount” is the arm that your phone sticks to.  So, for $14.95 plus two shipping and handling fees, you get:

Overview

Everybody dreads the big heating bills and the way that heat seems to dry the skin. One of the biggest problems with regular furnaces is that they cost so much to operate. If the furnace is powered by gas, there can be some hazards involved.

There have been many portable heaters on the market; however, nothing compares to Seasonaire. This piece of equipment is cost-efficient to run and allows you to turn down the thermostat. It literally costs less to run than some small appliances!

The makers of Seasonaire state that you can reduce or even eliminate the need for a traditional furnace, as well as a humidifier and air purifier.  That’s a pretty big claim, although given the Seasonaire’s numerous functions, it may actually be true.

The Cost

You can buy Seasonaire from the manufactures for around $399. They have a special that allows a person to bring it home for only $39.95. After this 60 day trial, the balance can be paid in easy monthly installments of $89.95.  For one heater that does seem a bit pricey; however, if compared with the utility bill costs incurred by the average family, it seems more reasonable.

There is some ongoing cost associated with this product. The HEPA filter will need to be changed periodically. HEPA filters can be a bit expensive; but for the 99.7 percent of purified air, it is worth the cost.

While these heaters are a little new to the market, they are more expensive. Some consumers are waiting until the hype has gone down to get a reduced price.

The Commitment

The main pitch with this heater is that it should reduce the utility bills and make the home have warm, moist air as opposed to a dry heat. Depending on what your utility costs are right now, this may or may not be of benefit when considering the cost.

Once you’ve been able to see how great this moist heat can supplement the traditional furnaces, you may think it is worth every penny. It could pay for itself relatively quickly.

Evaluation

The consensus by users is that Seasonaire works well. There are a few things that need to be tweaked, but in general it seems to live up to the claims. People are saying that there is a noticeable different in their home when this unit is operating.

The heater is easy to be moved around and safe to be around children and pets, which is another plus. There are some complaints that the filters are expensive and need changed to be changed frequently. Overall, the various reviews show that there is a great deal of user satisfaction.

Final Conclusion

We have to give the Seasonaire portable heating machine the Thumbs Up, because it functions well and makes a dramatic improvement in the home’s utility cost and adds consistent heat. While there are other heaters on the market that tend to also get good reviews, they do not have the fan, filtration, UV/HEPA purifiers and consistent positive ratings of this heater.

Internet marketing and shopping on televised home networks is on the rise. These outlets have come to be extremely popular, not because of the prices that they offer, but due to the miracles that their products promise to deliver. As jaded shoppers, the question that we really must ask ourselves is “can this product really do what it claims?”

So has someone finally gotten it right? This review will look in depth at the Edge of Glory knife sharper to see if someone really has produced a product that is a cut above the rest.

Why Another Knife Sharpener?

The knife is a critical tool in the kitchen. Anyone who has struggled to prepare a meal that involves lots of chopping and dicing with a dull knife can attest to this fact. If there is a new knife sharpener on the market that can ease your labor, why not add it to the arsenal?

Knife sharpeners of the past have also been fairly focused on utility. But this knife sharpener has looks. I myself have always been one for Form being placed slightly ahead of Function, so this is the first positive thing I can point out about the Edge of Glory Sharpener.

A suction cup on the bottom is designed to hold the apparatus securely in place during use, and in fact, encourages you to find it a permanent place on the kitchen counter. This feature is certainly a plus.

You will have a consistent reminder to keep those blade edges performing at the top of their game! Believe it or not, this factor really does affect the ability to succeed when it comes to food presentation.

How it Works

The blade of your knife is inserted between two tungsten carbide pieces positioned on the top of the open face utensil. The bits are perfectly positioned in a “V” formation. A handy arrow directs you in the correct direction to pull your blade.

A few quick passes leaves you with a perfectly sharp knife. The process is simple and is even kind of fun. Also, the suction cup feature is much better than what you might be picturing. You might be envisioning the cheap suction cups that are supposed to hold spiders on windows at Halloween, which invariably fall.

The actual cup provides strong suction that you engage with a small lever on the side of the device. Even with the full weight of a standard person (150-200 lbs.), the cup will not budge. The suction cup seems to work equally well on all surfaces, be it stainless steel, masonite, marble, or even laminate.

The Magic of Advertisement

Ads for the Edge of Glory Sharpener show the enthusiastic chef running a credit card through the sharpener once and then seamlessly slicing through a ripe tomato. When attempting this miracle of engineering yourself, you are likely to get the same results of all the customers that gave the exercise a whirl: a badly mangled tomato.

But if you are a persistent person, then you are likely to run your card through the sharpener over and over again. After enough passes you will get a distinguishable edge that will cut through a tomato with some degree of competency.

This small amount of deception concerning the efficiency of the product is no reason to completely turn away in disgust. After all, we do expect companies to exaggerate their claims simply to get our attention.

Passing the Test

Once your infomercial curiosity has been satisfied, it is time to test the real blades. The actual performance is quite good, even after running credit cards over the sharpeners. While some sharpeners are designed to work well with only high-quality blades, the Edge of Glory Sharpener seems to perform equally well on all blades.

Even low quality blades and hunting knives that were designed to do jobs that one would not encounter in the kitchen had good results. As a sharpener, it has the ability to remove nicks from blades that were aged. Even hand sharpeners will have a hard time standing up to the performance of this product.

The amount of elbow grease required for different blades remained consistent. Regardless of the condition of the knife (to a reasonable degree), four to six swipes of the blade gets the job done.

The design is attractive as well. The Edge of Glory certainly deserves a visible spot in the kitchen. It is lightweight, compact, and a traditional creamy white color that will match any kitchen décor.

The Results are In

There are very few bad things to say about this product. It lives up to its claims! The only drawbacks that can be pointed out are pretty standard for kitchen gadgets in this day and age.

The price is reasonable ($10.99); however, the shipping costs are like most As Seen on TV products – ridiculous.  You can expect to pay a separate shipping and handling on the “free” second sharpener.

The actual material making up the body is a cheap plastic composite, but it seems to be thick enough to withstand years of heavy abuse.  If properly cared for, it is likely to outlive the tungsten sharpeners themselves. The “V” sharpener cannot be replaced when they eventually dull, so you cannot have any kind of “lifetime guarantee” expectations.

Overall, this is a great gadget you can comfortably order online or the next time you park yourself in front of HSN to pass an evening of insomnia.

Its secret weapon, the company claims, is its nano-polymer formula which “penetrates deep and binds to the surface to restore showroom luster to faded, weathered surfaces and protect against the elements.” Plus, it’s versatile enough to be used on bumpers, rims, dashboards, the console, visors and the instrument panel. In short, it restores just about any exterior and interior plastic.

Not only can this stuff be used on plastics but paint as well. This is for the more advanced or professional detailer as the process is somewhat involved however the results are amazing! The manufacturer removed the YouTube video showing how to do it on paint so it must really be a “not indorsed” way to use it. The results the pro got looked great though.
